Mazzi 25th Anniversary Air Brush Collectible

Mazzi, who lives and works in Modena, Italy, began airbrushing original works of art onto Zippo lighters in 1996, after a chance meeting with the president of Zippo Italia, Zippo’s exclusive distributor in Italy.  

His designs caused a sensation in the Zippo collector community, winning first place at the 1996 Zippo Swap Meet Design competition and setting record high bids at the swap meet auction.  

In 2006, Mazzi signed an agreement with Zippo to begin reproducing a few select designs using Zippo’s color printing process. He continues to regularly produce new pieces for the Zippo catalogs, his designs now rendered in Zippo’s modern Color Imaging Process. 

Mazzi, in addition to his Zippo lighter pieces, has also done works for the brands Ducati, Maserati, and Ferrari, as well as British and Saudi Arabia royalty and other heads of state and motorcycle racing stars. 

This collectible’s design pays homage to the very first lighter that Mazzi designed for Zippo – a flash of lighting that symbolized the primordial fire starter, man’s first chance to capture flame. Mazzi also captures his own silhouette behind the lighter, poised with airbrush and pocket-lighter-turned-canvas in hand, while the sunset background and additional design elements wrap completely around the lighter.  

Zippo celebrates 25 years of collaborating with Maestro Claudio Mazzi with an ultra-limited-edition collectible featuring a vibrant design airbrushed onto the lighter by Mazzi himself. Layer by layer, Mazzi’s deft hands transform paint into light, shading into realistic dimension, and a classic Zippo windproof lighter into a unique objet d’arte. 

As these lighters have been individually hand-painted by Mazzi, collectors can expect slight variations in the design. Each lighter is hand-numbered and bears the official Zippo by Mazzi signature. Production was limited to a mere 250 pieces worldwide, and the collectible comes ready for display in Zippo’s Luxury Cube packaging.
